Encore: Whippin' Post

I have only two negative things to say about the show.

1. It ended
2. They don't have any plans right now to do another one!

Southbound sold out House of Bricks last night and for good reason. James Biehn solidified himself once again as the best guitar player in the city of Des Moines. At times if you shut your eyes it was like you were hearing Duane Allman himself with James's playing and singing. The drum solo during the last set was just as sick as anything I've ever seen. Joe and Joel were phenominal. Vercel was on point at the keys as always, and Jordan held it together on the bass nicely all night. Don't worry...I didn't forget about Seth. Him and James complimented each other VERY well just like Duane and Dickie, or even Derek and Warren. I think if Derek Trucks or Warren Haynes ever go down they have two worthy replacements! I wish I could rattle off the set list but I can't for a number of reasons...most of them chemical! I can tell you however, I enjoyed every single song they played and a few moments stuck out.

First of all...Dreams was freaking ridiculous! They could have played that song for the entire two and a half hours they were on stage and no one would have noticed. Come and Go Blues has always been a favorite of mine, and they nailed that one too! In fact they nailed everything. Of course the encore had to be Whipping Post all in your FACE! I swear they played it for forty five minutes. It was every bit as unbelievable as the first time I heard that song on the Filmore album.

All in all I can't remember ever watching a cover band and enjoying it this much. If these guys felt like making a living as a tribute band there is no doubt in my mind they could do it and do it well!
